PLAYING LESSON REMINDERS

A frequently asked question is why do the children have to wait so long after check-in before going on the golf course for a playing lesson. The answer is two-fold:
(1) We, the instruction staff, do not control who plays the golf course. If we did, the kids would never wait, have more opportunities to play, have regularly scheduled tournaments on the weekend, and pay nothing. The city starter (the guy in the glass booth) is an employee of the golf course city manager, who answers to the power-that-be downtown. Their mission is to get as many adult customers paying full rate on the course as possible, which is a conflict of interest with our goals (see earlier comment.) Consequently, we wait until the starter says we can go, and on busy days the wait can be as long 30 minutes after our “official” start time of 4:35. Unfortunately, we have no recourse when that happens and our instructors are probably more frustrated with the wait than the kids (I know I am).
(2) Kids often check-in at 4:00 p.m. (or earlier) for the lesson which means they’ll wait at least 35 minutes even if we start on time. You may be asking why do we list the check-in at 4:00 if the 1st tee-time isn’t until 4:35 or later? We have an instructor available for check-in as a convenience for those of you juggling tight schedules and would like to drop off your kids early and know that an instructor is in the area to watch the kids and provide some warm-up putting tips, etc. If you would like to minimize the wait time for your kids, feel free to come as late as 4:30. One caveat to checking after 4:30 is that we may will have already set the pairings up and your child may not get into the group he/she wanted.
Speaking of pairings for the playing lessons…
The instructors are committed to making sure every child in their group gets an opportunity to play without undue risk to their safety, and to learn without distractions that come from “good buddies” engaging in horseplay. If we see that certain pairings create safety and learning issues, we will purposely separate the buddies until they demonstrate they can join a group and stay focused
and listen to their instructor while on the course. We hope we can count on your support if there comes a time when your child is asked to join a group that does not have his buddy in it.

RESERVE YOUR SPOTS EARLY

In order to maximize participation in our group events, we offer open spots in upcoming weekend skills clinics and weekday playing lessons to guests every Friday afternoon. Please take advantage of your ability to sign-up for junior group events well in advance using your smarterlessons.com account. (Saturday clinics and Wednesday playing lessons are especially getting tight right now.)
We publish the current and following month’s events on smarterlessons so you have plenty of opportunity to reserve your spots on your favorite days. If you need help using your smarterlessons account, just sent a reply and I’ll instruct the system to send you your child’s login name and password. The rest is a pretty straightforward step-by-step procedure to reserve a spot in a group event. If you have more than one child in the program, remember to book the 1st child into the events that you want, log out of that account and log back in with the next child’s account to reserve his/her spot in the same events.

WEEKDAY PLAYING LESSONS

DROP-OFF: 4:00 to 4:30 PM - An event coordinator will be available at 4:00 PM to begin pairing up arriving participants into groups of four. Groupings will continue to be made until 4:30 PM. Each pairing will be accompanied by an instructor for 90 minutes of instruction, or approximately 3 to 5 holes of play.
PICK-UP: 6:00 to 6:15 PM - After 90 minutes of golf, instructors will escort all participants back to the putting greens next to the golf shop for pick-up.
Please note:
Participants may continue to play the golf course without an instructor only:
(1) if joined by a parent or guardian, or
(2) without an adult if approval is given to the event coordinator during check-in.
Parents or guardians may join their child to play on the golf course:
(1) only after the playing lesson has completed, and
(2) only after paying green fees to the starter.
