RESERVE YOUR SPOTS EARLY
======================
In order to maximize participation in our group events, we offer open spots in upcoming weekend skills clinics and weekday playing lessons to guests every Friday afternoon. Please take advantage of your ability to sign-up for junior group events well in advance using your smarterlessons.com account. (Saturday clinics and Wednesday playing lessons are especially getting tight right now.)

We publish the current and following month’s events on smarterlessons so you have plenty of opportunity to reserve your spots on your favorite days. If you need help using your smarterlessons account, just sent a reply and I’ll instruct the system to send you your child’s login name and password. The rest is a pretty straightforward step-by-step procedure to reserve a spot in a group event. If you have more than one child in the program, remember to book the 1st child into the events that you want, log out of that account and log back in with the next child’s account to reserve his/her spot in the same events.

WEEKDAY PLAYING LESSON GENERAL INFORMATION
========================================
If you get a spot in a week day playing lesson, check-in begins at 3:00 and continues to 4:00 PM throughout the months of December and January. Players checking in 3:30 will likely be shuttled out to a group already on the course.

Pick-up will be approximately 90 minutes after a group tees off, or until sunset, whichever comes first. During the summer months, older players may continue to play the course without a coach with the approval of a parent or guardian. Please note: Participants who continue to play, unless accompanied by an adult with a rented golf cart, must walk the golf course. (Pull carts will be available at no charge.)

PLAYING LESSON RESTRICTIONS: To participate in on-course playing lessons, junior golfers must live within the San Diego city limits or attend a San Diego City unified school. First time participants must purchase a resident ID card (yearly fee of $25) and a junior play pass ($10.50 good for 30 days) from the San Diego city starter’s booth.

If your child has never before joined us for a playing lesson, please skip over the general check in reminders that follow and see the special instructions for new members below.

=============================================
REMINDERS FOR MEMBERS ATTENDING A PLAYING LESSON
=============================================
-   Please make sure the following items are available before arriving at the golf course: your child’s Resident I.D. card issued by the city starter (looks somewhat like a library card with your child’s picture on it), and a 30 Day Junior Play Pass (a white paper card also issued by the city starter and has numbers representing the days of the month on it).
-   Please check the expiration date on your 30 Day Junior Play Pass. If it has expired, the cost for a new pass is $10.50 payable at the starter’s booth (VISA, MasterCard, and cash accepted).
-   After checking-in with the city starter, please present your Group Lesson Card to the playing lesson coordinator at the putting greens.
-   Pick-up is approximately 90 minutes after the playing lesson kicks-off.
-   We’ll provide light snacks and water at check-in.
-   Temperatures are typically cooler at our facility so light layers will provide flexibility and comfort.
-   Tennis shoes and non-collared shirts are OK.

The pass is white, is made of card paper, and has numbers representing the days of the month on it.

-   If you need to purchase a 30 Day Junior Play Pass, the cost is $10.50 payable at the starter’s booth (VISA, MasterCard, and cash accepted). This pass is good for 30 days.
-   After checking-in with the city starter, please present your Group Lesson Card to the playing lesson coordinator at the putting greens.

PLAYING LESSON INFORMATION
=========================
A frequently asked question is why the children have to wait so long after check-in before going on the golf course for a playing lesson. The answer is two-fold:

(1) We, the instruction staff, do not control who plays the golf course. If we did, the kids would never wait, have more opportunities to play, have regularly scheduled tournaments on the weekend, and pay nothing. The city starter (the guy in the glass booth) is an employee of the golf course city manager, who answers to the powers-that-be downtown. Their mission is to get as many adult customers paying full rate on the golf course as possible. Consequently, we wait until the starter says we can go, and on busy days the wait can be as long 30 minutes after our “official” start time. Unfortunately, we have no recourse when that happens and our instructors are probably more frustrated with the wait than the kids (I know I am).

(2) Kids often arrive at the beginning of the check-in time window (or earlier) which means they’ll sometimes wait 30-35 minutes even if we start on time. We’re available early as a convenience for those of you juggling tight schedules and you can be assured that an instructor is in the area to watch the kids and provide some warm-up putting tips, etc. If you would like to minimize the wait time for your kids, feel free to come closer to the end of the check-in window.

Speaking of pairings for the playing lessons…
The instructors are committed to making sure every child in their group gets an opportunity to play without undue risk to their safety and to learn without distractions that come from “good buddies” engaging in horseplay. If we see that certain pairings create safety and learning issues, we will purposely separate the buddies until they demonstrate they can play in the same group and stay focused and attentive to their instructor while on the course. We hope we can count on your support if there comes a time when your child is asked to join a group that does not have his/her buddy in it.

Unconfirmed walk-ups…
What happens if a child arrives and their name is not on a roster? We will accept unconfirmed walk-ups only if spots are still available after all pre-registered kids have had an opportunity to check-in. Kids under the age of 12 who are dropped off at an event but do not end getting a spot in our event will be asked to call their parent or guardian and inform them of the situation.
